COUNTIES AFFECTED and DEGREE AFFECTED: Douglas County – Jefferson County
– Severe DAMAGE
ASSESSMENTS: 4,000+ Acres Burned including timber, brush, and grass.
The area includes the Pike and San
Isabel National Forests, Denver Water property and other private lands. The
location is 3 Miles southwest of Decker, CO.
EWP ACTIONS TO DATE: None at the present time
HUMAN INTEREST EXAMPLES: The media attention is intense, and it involves the communities
of Decker and Westcreek. The Shady Brooke Camp and Wigwam Campground were evacuated.
The threatened area involves 300 homes and 20 commercial buildings. One home has
burned. There has been no loss of life. The area is east of Cheesman,
Colorado. The involved lake is a Denver water reservoir.
URGENT PROBLEMS AND/OR NEEDS: (additional comments): There is extreme fire
behavior with winds in excess of 50 mph. The area has steep, rugged
terrain. The fire is
torching, crowning, and running downhill moving toward Decker, Colorado. The
area's major roads have been closed.
