There are 12 Major Land Resource Area Soil Survey (MLRA) Regions serving the National Cooperative Soil Survey in the United
States and its trust territories. They provide regional coordination, quality
assurance, technical guidance and support, and technology transfer to state and
project soil survey offices. MLRAs are geographically associated land resource units, usually encompassing several thousand acres. A unit may be one continuous area or several separate nearby areas.
